Four athletes. One boat. 3,000 miles of open ocean. No stops. No breaks. Just row, recover, repeat.
Elliot Collins, his father Greg, and their teammates on Get Busy Rowing recently completed the World's Toughest Row—45 days and 9 hours at sea, rowing from the Canary Islands to Antigua in one of the most grueling endurance challenges on the planet.
Two rowers work three-hour shifts while two teammates sleep at opposite ends of the boat. Then you switch. Repeat. For over six weeks straight. Described as "the engine room of the team," Elliot understood something critical: when the work never stops, recovery can't either.
Two Products. One System. Zero Wasted Time.
Most athletes think recovery happens after the season. After the game. After the training block. But what happens when there is no "after"?
"When training for something this big, the work doesn't really stop, it just changes," Elliot explained. "As soon as I'm done rowing I try to switch gears straight away. It's about giving your legs a break without switching off and then getting back doing what you need to do on the boat."
That's where VKTRY came in, on both ends of the equation.
During the crossing, Elliot wore VKTRY Carbon Fiber Insoles inside his rowing shoes. The numbers alone tell the story: "Over 45 days, each of us rowed for over 540 hours, roughly 650,000 strokes. Strapped into the footplates of our 28-foot Rannoch R45 ocean rowing boat, we rowed through heavy storms and up to 50-foot seas. With VKTRY insoles in our shoes, the connection through the footplate felt solid and powerful. When we had to push hard through bad weather, they helped our leg drive feel strong, stable, and more efficient."
Then the shift ends. The oars go down. And the VKTRY Recovery Clogs go on.
The Carbon Cloud Advantage: On Both Sides of the Shift
The VKTRY Recovery Clog is built with a Carbon Cloud Core™, a proprietary system combining a patented carbon fiber baseplate with an ultra-cushioned dual-density footbed. On a 28-foot ocean rowboat, that technology is anything but a luxury.
"With a three-hour on, three-hour off rotation, our feet were soaked, and our legs fatigued from 12 hours a day on the oars," Elliot said. "The VKTRY recovery clogs let our feet dry out, and the cushioning helped our legs recover before the next shift."
When you're fatigued, mechanics break down. Feet collapse inward. Ankles wobble. Knees compensate. That's how overuse injuries start; not from one bad rep, but from thousands of compromised steps. VKTRY Recovery Clogs combine lightweight EVA, an embedded carbon fiber plate midsole, orthotic arch support, a rocker sole, deep heel cup, and an ultra-soft Carbon Cloud footbed to keep your alignment honest and your legs ready to go again. Designed by a Board Certified Pedorthist, they're built to reduce the stress that leads to Plantar Fasciitis, Achilles Tendinitis, and Flat Feet.
Recovery That Moves With You
Elliot and his crew didn't have the luxury of ice baths or massage therapists mid-Atlantic. They had a 28-foot rowboat, salt sores, sleep deprivation, and the job of getting safely to the other side.
But they came prepared. And they kept moving. Kept rowing. Kept recovering on the fly.
Whether you're rowing the Atlantic or grinding through your season, the principle is the same: push hard with the right support under your feet, and recovery becomes part of the performance, not a pause from it.
